Mamie, a 59-year-old woman from Minnesota, has been struggling with her insecurities for a while now. Her husband, who cannot stand the distress on his beautiful wife’s face, would always try to make her feel comfortable in her skin. But aging took all of Mamie’s confidence away. So when her 60th birthday came knocking on their door, her husband was ready to uplift her spirits with a surprise that would take her breath away.
High School Sweetheart
Mamie married her high school sweetheart, which sounds like a naive dream except it wasn’t. She met him when she was just 14, and Mamie never felt the need to look for love anywhere else. He was that boy, who would whistle the Beatles and kiss her before math class. From the very beginning, Mamie was smitten.

If somebody had told the 14-year-old Mamie that she is going to marry the boy in the letterman jacket, the one who has captured her heart, she would have laughed out loud. But it happened. And they have been happily married for the past 40 years.
Mother Of Two
Mamie first became a mother at the young age of 23, and then again at 25. She was blessed with two daughters who are now happily married. One of them is a new mom to a baby boy which makes Mamie the happiest grandmother. She shares a healthy relationship with her daughters to this day.
Busy Mom
Mamie was the busiest when her daughters were young and stayed with her. But after they found a life of their own, Mamie’s life came back to a calm pace. She would spend most of her days reading, watching TV or learning to bake new things for her husband.
Behind The Scene
From her smile, nobody could tell what was going on with Mamie when she was alone. She was not as happy as she pretended to be. Over the past decade, she had aged significantly. Her hair was almost completely grey, her eyes had crow feet in the corners and her beautiful smile would highlight the wrinkles around her mouth.

Mamie had never been the one to have insecurities about her looks. She was beautiful and she knew it. Mamie’s mindset did not change but she did notice her husband trying to keep her happy, trying to make her believe in herself again. Mamie could not let his effort go in vain. She appreciated what he was doing and for his sake, she was learning to smile again.

Mamie would go on planned vacations, shopping sprees, dinner at fancy restaurants, all to make her husband believe she is doing fine. What she didn’t know was that he could see through her plastered smile and was constantly finding new things to make her happy.

It was Mamie’s 60th so the gift has to be extra special. Her husband knew her inside out, yet for this gift he was confused. What do you give to a person who already has everything? Everything materialistic, at least. He wished he could give her back her confidence as a gift. And that is when something in his mind clicked!

Mamie was anxious about attending this birthday party. Her husband had probably invited all of her friends. She was in no mood to “celebrate” but she can’t put her husband’s effort to waste. He has booked a venue and everything. She has to put on her happy face and participate in the celebration.
Getting Ready
After putting on the dress her husband got her, and her favorite pieces of jewelry, Mamie was ready to go. Her husband smiled when he saw her step out of the bedroom looking as beautiful as ever. He took her by the hand and led her to their car. The car pulled out of the driveway, and the couple was ready to get the night started.
Reaching the Venue
Mamie was ready for her husband to pull up in front of a fancy restaurant instead he parked his car in front of a huge plaza complex. She didn’t think this was the right place. She turned to check with her husband if they are in the right place but he was already getting out of the car, all giddy with excitement.
The Plaza
Mamie got out of the car as her husband opened the door for her. He took her inside the plaza and together they reached a fancy looking showroom where “Christopher Hopkins” was written on the glass door. Mamie was confused because the name sounded kind of familiar but she wasn’t sure what is happening.
Surprise!
As Mamie entered throw the glass doors, her eyes went wide in astonishment. Everything finally clicked into place and she realized that the showroom was a salon and there was no birthday party after all. Her husband has gifted her a makeover session from the famous artist Christopher Hopkins!
Overwhelmed
Mamie could only imagine how much it cost to book a session with Christopher Hopkins. And the fact that her husband did not think twice before making this gesture was admirable. She felt overwhelmed with happiness because she knew why he is putting in this much effort, all to get her to feel happy and confident again.
Getting Started
Once things had settled down a bit, it was time to figure out Mamie’s new look. They took her inside the studio and requested the husband to wait for the big reveal. He was more than happy to oblige. Christopher asked Mamie what would she like to get done. She informed him she has a problem with her hair turning grey and thinning with age. So she wants him to change her hair.
Envision The Look
Before doing too much, Christopher wanted to envision Mamie’s new look. He knew he wanted to do something to the hair as per Mamie’s request but he also wanted to change the makeup look. He was aware Mamie didn’t like her grey hair but he had something planned which will make her fall in love with her hair again.
Haircut
Christopher started with the haircut, taking grey strands of hair and clipping them off with stainless scissors. For a while, there was no other sound in the studio except the snipping of scissors. Mamie’s eyes caught sight of strands of grey hair falling from her shoulders, one after the other.
The Feeling
As she kept watching the strands fall one by one, she realized that she felt liberated. As if she is letting go of every bad thing she had ever held on to. She felt free and as the look began to come together, she couldn’t help but smile at the woman in the mirror. For the first time in years, she could meet her eyes.
Makeup
It was time to do Mamie’s makeup now. She was not much of a makeup person anymore but Christopher wanted her to embrace it again. He promised he won’t go overboard. He started with subtle hues of lilac and purples on her eyelids, followed by some mascara on her eyelashes. For lips, he put a shade of pale pink and coated it with clear gloss.
Almost Ready
Mamie was almost ready to reveal her new look to her husband. For the final touch, Christopher filled in her brows and added a hint of blush on her cheeks. Once the makeup and hair were set, it was time for the new outfit and jewelry.
New Outfit
To finish off the look, Mamie changed into the new outfit. It was a grey v-neck top paired with black jeans. And for jewelry, she wore her silver chain and silver dangling earrings, same as before. Once everything was put together, it was time for the big reveal.
The Reveal
It was time to show Mamie’s husband her new look. As per Mamie’s instructions, he was standing outside the room with his eyes closed. But he was already smiling from ear to ear. Mamie stepped out of the room and asked him to open his eyes. And his reaction was precious!
Beautiful
“Wow. You look nice. Really nice. You look good.”, he said with a huge grin on his face. Mamie was happy with his reaction. She assumed he loves the new hair but to him, it wasn’t even about the looks. He was happy to see how happy Mamie looked.
Not A Fan
Mamie’s husband admitted later on to Christopher, that he was not a big fan of makeovers. Because for him, she was beautiful even when she didn’t believe it herself. To him, the biggest gift is that she got her smile back.
Loving It
Not that he meant to take away from how gorgeous she looks right now, no doubt. Mamie had issues with how her hair had grown thinner and grey so he made her hair shorter but did not change the color. And now, she loved the way her hair looks. Christopher made her fall in love with it.
New Woman
Mamie reached in to hug her husband. She told him that she feels like a new woman and thanked him for this beautiful gift. It was truly the best birthday gift he could have gotten her. And now she couldn’t help but flaunt her hair and look in the mirror over and over again.
Mission Accomplished
Mamie felt like herself after a long time and her husband could not be happier about it. He finally achieved his goal of making her happy and confident in herself. He was thankful to Christopher for ensuring things go as planned and for helping him in his little endeavor.
Loving Couple
The husband and wife indirectly answered the secret behind their 40 years old marriage. They know each other inside out and proved that gifts are not just about materialistic things. It can be about finding your loved one’s happiness as well. And Mamie’s husband touched many hearts with this sweet gesture.

Mamie expressed her gratitude to Christopher, for matching his vision with hers and creating something beautiful. She could not have imagined it to get better than this. The best part is, she still has grey hair yet she loves the way they look now. It’s amazing how the look turned out.

Mamie’s story was also shared on his Youtube channel. It received so much love from the community. People were admiring the love shared between the couple. They were amazed by the thoughtfulness of the husband. It is truly a rare thing to find, and Mamie is blessed for sure.
Never Again
Mamie admitted to her husband that had it not been for him, she would never have gotten out of the dark place she was trapped in with her insecurities. She promised she will never criticize her looks because of aging. Instead, she will embrace it and never go down the self-doubt road again!
