ARCHEOLOGISTS MADE A DISCOVERY IN THE TRIQUET ISLAND ONLY TO CHANGE THE HUMAN HISTORY FOREVER

 

No archeologists would ever dare to explore the land that has never been talked about, but, this team decided to walk on the unbeaten path. You might have read or heard the poem “The Road Less Travelled” by Robert Frost which talks about the choices a person has to make in his life. This team did something out of the league and made the discovery of the lifetime. It was the biggest discovery ever made in the region of North America. This particular spot was believed to be inaccessible but this team proved everybody wrong. In the end, their hard work paid off with the most amazing discovery in the history of humanity. You would be surprised to know that this land was once part of a mythical tale. But ” they apprise of a land, very few believed, but only the chosen ones explored”.

Reliving An Ancient Tale

There is a very famous legend that goes with the tiny town on the Canadian coast, Triquet Island, that made this team really intrigued, later decided to explore this mystical land. Just look at the game played by the fate, the team discovered something that astonished everybody around the globe. Some answers to humanity are still waiting for us to find them and then revealing it to the world so that they could know what we were and are today.

The Adventure Begins

The team was decided, consisting of some experienced people from the community of archeologists. The location couldn’t be found in any of the maps but the famous Great Bear Rainforest was holding the spot for centuries, only waiting for this team so that the trees and the land could get free from the duties assigned to them by the people living in these forests. What was the secret that took these archeologists with surprise?

The Great Forest

The Great Bear Rainforest is also known as the Central and North Coast Forest, located on the Pacific coast of British Columbia, Canada. This 6.4 million hectare of land is said to be the largest coastal temperate rainforest in the world. Thankfully, in 2016 this forest was listed in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, due to which that exact spot where this amazing discovery was made, remained safe. Soon, several feet were about to take a path which leads to this place.

In The Pines

A tiny remote island hidden deep in the Great Bear Rainforest was awaked from the century-long sleep when the feet of the chosen one touched the land. Their touch worked as a key to the lock of this land. Being a 6.5 million hectare wide forest you could imagine it wouldn’t have been an easy task to find that spot where the discovery of the century was waiting to get unearthed. As we have told you the spot wasn’t on any maps and team was just working on a hunch because they believed in the ancient folktale.

Search Begins…

The team started the search on a fool’s hope, an ancient myth. Searching the land of such extent was sure a headache. They didn’t have any clues which could leave them to the place but they didn’t give in. The search was on, soon the team starts digging the land. The mud was cold which almost covered them but that didn’t stop the excitement of finding the discovery. Soon, the lives of these researchers would take a different turn.

The First

This team was the first to step inside this vast green forest. And it was normal for the scientists to not to think about this place as it was only accessed through boat and seaplane. But still, the thought of the tales being true led the team to shovel the land. But little did they knew, this folktale was the key to everything. The scientists would soon unearth something incredible.

Hidden Beneath The Mud

The team consisting of several professors from the archeology department and the students of the University of Victoria participated in this excavation. The dug through the ground which was a very long process and later revealed a bed of peat. After hours of long digging, the team finally discovered something on which they could follow their further excavation. If they wouldn’t have found it then the possibility of the team looking further looked very thin. It was just a hunch after all. But the destiny was playing its part perfectly.

Eight Feet Below

The digging was a long process but finally, eight feet down they found a fossil soil. Yes, the fossil soil that surprised everybody. As we told you about this land which wasn’t accessible easily. The team landed on this land only after the helicopter was arranged for them. But if the land wasn’t available for a human to land then how come there was a fossil soil present there. It was later they found several other things that made solved that one of the biggest mysteries of the human civilization.

Fossil Game

In the eight feet deep pit the team made the astonishing discovery that changed everybody’s views about human civilization. Firstly, it wasn’t a pit after all. It was an ancient oven of which the archeologists had no idea from it came and how it ended up in this place. Though this ancient oven was an amazing discovery after all the hard work the team has put in, it was later several discoveries near this ancient oven that baffled everybody’s mind and solved the mystery of this place.

In Hope For More

After discovering an ancient pit in one of the spots of the inaccessible land, the team was excited to investigate the land further. The team was confident that they would find something amazing or this all could just turn into the worst nightmare. And the doubt of finding nothing was very natural as the team was acting on a plain hunch. They started digging the land around the ancient oven. Digging isn’t an easy task it could take a while because you never know in which layer of the soil you might find something and rush you could just destroy the discovery. But the wait was worth it as they found of which they haven’t thought of finding in this life.

The Ancient One

As we have told you the team was working on a hunch. The folktale they heard from the locals of that area made them take this risk which could easily end some of the archeologist’s career. But even then they did follow their heart only to unearth the mystery of the lifetime. The local of which we talked about are the Heiltsuk people also known as the First Nation native of the Great Bear Rainforest. They have always talked about their people in a very proud tone by telling that their ancestors have lived in this place since Ice Age. This inexplicable Triquet Island has been sung in several folktales and songs of this tribe. But the scientists have refuted the claims as there is no evidence of a human civilization ever footing in this place.

Scientists’ Side

According to the scientists, during the Ice Age, Western Canada was covered with ice and massive glacier. Triquet Island which is located off the coast of British Columbia and scientists are pretty sure that it too was submerged in the ice. Reaching the island would have been impossible and living there is out of the scene entirely. The scientists don’t believe the claim made by the locals. But soon the views changed when the discovery was made that told an entirely different story of the mystical land.

The team had been dubious about finding anything in the first place. This archeological investigation was radically different from the other digs took places in Egypt or the Incas. You might be thinking, so what happened after they found the ancient oven-like structure that they thought was a pit? The team kept digging the site. For several hours the team couldn’t find anything at all. When they almost lost the hope one of the teams from the group discovered something shocking. That was just a start, what followed after that astonished everybody.

Frozen In Time

Just like the Triquet Island which was frozen for centuries, the team too froze for a moment after the discovery. But what surprised the team most is that they found several things and it was like there is an abundance of stuff which was lying there only to get discovered by this team of archeologists. The plethora of so many things found in this piece of land made their head spin for a moment. What did they find?

As we said, the team kept finding some of the great things that were buried in the ground (you’ll be surprised to see how old these things actually were). There were several superannuated versions of weapons, and tools that were used for hunting, fishing, and lighting fires. The students were really excited about the discoveries of which many wouldn’t have thought of finding in this lifetime. For many students, the moment was like a baby taking its first steps…

Solid Evidence

The community of the Heiltsuk Nation was aware of the significance of the excavation which was going on in the Triquet Island. If the expedition was successful, their tales of their ancestors being the first person living in the exact spot since Ice Age would turn out to be true. The oldest evidence which has ever been found regarding their existence dates back to around 7170 BCE. But this discovery was able to take the team much further back in the past. For thousands of years, the Heiltsuk people have been living in these forests, mountains and on this island. They were involved in activities like fishing and smoking salmon. But this discovery changed this perception too about these people.

More Clues

The conclusion was that these people, whoever they had been, primarily subsisted from eating the meat of large marine mammals, like seals, sea lions, and walruses. But how long ago were they doing this? Could it have been during the Ice Age like the Heiltsuk had said? At the archaeological dig site on Triquet Island, the team had discovered tools that would have been used for hunting. But these spears were so big that it would have been impractical to catch fish with them. What’s more, the island had no land mammals.

Mysterious Shards

So, basically, it was a remote island and finding these artifacts was really surprising for the archeologists. These burnt pieces found inside the hearth were really delicate which had to be taken out with the help of tweezers. The archeologists later sent those pieces to the lab and waited for the results. The excavation went and reached till the seashore where other astonishing discoveries were made by the team.

Toolmakers

The results from the lab could tell an intense story about this secretive civilization. Later, the archeologists even found several cutting and woodworking tools which were modeled from obsidian, a type of volcanic glass. But what surprised them the most, the fact that there were has been no evidence of a volcano ever been present in this place. It was believed that these people traveled to this place, by boat, and by land. And the archeologists found even more interesting facts about the people when they made an astonishing discovery at the seashore.

Between the seashore and the parts of the village, archeologists unearthed a pile of trash, which they called a midden. There were several recent remains of marine gardens with stone walls and fishnets with hooks which suggested these researchers that these people’s diet changed with time from big sea mammals to smaller seafood. It was concluded that back then this area had an abundance of food in the area, and these people knew how to properly use them. But then why this site was left abandoned? The answer lies in the past.

An Ancient Disaster

The scientists concluded after the evidence which was found in the area that it was true that a civilization existed here but ended after the first tsunami hit the place. There was another theory, that these people did return to this place after several years with varied eating habits. And it was also found out that there have been two tsunamis in this place. And how did the scientists came up to this conclusion? There were two signs of the catastrophe that took place in this area, one 6,700 years old, one 5,600 years old.

Bridge To America

If going by the conventional theory, we humans have crossed a bridge of prehistoric land that includes Siberia to Alaska, making its away from Asin into America. And as the Ice Age was coming to an end, the ice melted and sea levels increased. What we see today, is not how it was? The bridge is lost in the deep sea. Back then, two gigantic glaciers covered Canada. It is said, that the ancient humans migrated to the south in large number about 12,000 years ago. But how old this Triquet island was?

Test Results Are In

The team finally solved the mystery revolved around this place. In November 2016 the team received the carbon dating tests results back which astonished everybody. Who would have thought they were dealing with a civilization that dated back far from their imagination. Few pieces of charcoal flakes brought a new revolution in the history of human civilization. This new evidence changed the way we understood the world and brought new light on our past. This discovery changed everything for the Heiltsuk history, Canadian history, and even for the American civilization. The discovery was truly baffling.

A Bombshell Discovery

No one in the archeologist community was prepared for what was coming in their way. The results from the carbon dating technology brought a new revelation that suggested that these artifacts belonged to a civilization which was approximately 14,000 years old. Obviously, the excitement was on another level for everybody in the team. A simple hunch turned out to be the greatest finding of the century. The date brought out some new evidence for the Heiltsuk Nation.

Older Than Empires

This huge 14,000 years old wasn’t just a number to get excited about but it made the scientists realized that this civilization which homed in the Triquet Island was older than the pyramids of Giza. To be more accurate this site was three times more ancient than these pyramids. It even predates the invention of the wheel and this was just a start what followed after that was utterly astonishing.

It was found that this civilization who lived in the Triquet Island was 14,000 years old, but what was more baffling is that the Ice Age couldn’t have ended by that time. The Ice Age ended after 2,000 years which means that theory of the island being covered in the ice was not true. Going by the evidence, this area was scattered between the parts of Alaska and the present-day border of US-Canada which wasn’t covered with ice. So, the nearest area which was available for these people to settle was Washington. Confused? Let us simplify it for you.

Two If By Sea

Researchers were aware of the fact that the humans crossed the bridge from Asia into North America. But to get to the Triquet Island they ought to have used the boats because even today it wasn’t easily possible for the humans to reach this place through the land. By using the boats they might have been at ease in traveling the ice-free zones of this place. This new information shaped human civilization with new light.

The Original Explorers

Whatever scientists knew was thrown into the dustbin. The new proof has shown them that there was a human settlement much before they would have imagined. Christoper Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci discovered North America when on their venture towards Europe but this civilization was the first voyager who settled on this strange island after discovering it. It’s so exciting to just think about the time in which they lived when they would have met some amazing neighbors of that time.

Back then, North America was actually filled with giants species. Until this day, scientists believed that no human presence would have ever been there before these gigantic species who roamed in this area. They always believed that these species vanished from the face of Earth before any human civilization came into existence. But this evidence of 14,000 years old has proved everybody wrong. 

Beasts Of The Northern Wild

While they traveled for the south and eventually, settling in this area must have seen these huge species of animals. Most famous was mastodons and woolly mammoths. There has been evidence which tells us that there were herds of camels too present back then in this area. Along with these animals, the sloths, spiked-toothed nine feet long salmon, lions, cheetahs, saber-toothed tigers, and wolves also made this place their home. But how did the humans survived between these animals is still a mystery?

The Island Of Stability

It is very hard to believe that when every area in Western Canada was covered in the ice and filled with enormous glaciers, the Triquet Island habituated humans and animals for such a long period. The answer lies in the Pacific Ocean. Scientists believed that the sea level of Pacific Ocean hasn’t changed for 15,000 years straight and which helped the civilization in flourishing in this area. 

A Parallel Mystery

While the archeologists were busy digging the evidence, there was another astonishing discovery that was waiting to get unearthed some 8,000 miles away in far south of Chile. The archeologists found some evidence of ancient village. It was in the 1970s, in a small town called Monte Verde, some farmers while working in the field discovered some bones which they said seemed like a cow bone. After investigating the claim, the scientists found out that the bone actually belonged to a prehistoric species called gomphothere. They also found some charcoal evidence which was very confusing.

The Settlers Of Monte Verde

In the Monte Verde site, there were also several human footprints and remains of ancient tent poles. They also found seaweed which seemed like somebody or someone chewed it. But Monte Verde was 8,000 miles away from Triquet Island then how come human evidence was found in this place too? With the help of carbon dating technology, the results showed the scientists that this evidence was around 18,500 years old or you could say the oldest artifacts ever been found in America.

A Journey To Defy All Others

The remains at Monte Verde were older than the artifacts found in the Triquet Island. What does this actually proves? This proves that the human civilization was able to touch the tip of South America. Regardless of the fact that the sea routes were filled with glaciers blocking the way, these humans traveled such a long distance is really mind-blowing. In this world, nothing could be accepted easily, and even the artifacts found in the Triquet Island met some controversies.

Murky Conclusions

Sadly, not everyone in the archeologist community was satisfied with the discovery made in the Monet Verde. They said these artifacts don’t prove any human presence in that area. When countered that these results are not a human calculation but are actually done with the carbon dating technology, they countered back by saying this could have happened because of an ancient brushfire. But the Heiltsuk people were happy by the discovery and that is all that matters to them.

History Of The Heiltsuk

The oldest trace of the Heiltsuk Nation dates back to some 9,000 years but this new discovery took this civilization more 5,000 years back in the past. Believing that these people were actually their ancestors the history of the Heiltsuk Nation took a new turn. It would have been a very proud moment for these people to actually know from where actually they came from. Because not every civilization could claim that.

The Heiltsuk Nation had always said that it was their ancestors who first stepped on the Triquet island since the Ice Age. There have been few who refuted the claim but this discovery would have surely made their mind change. It is amazing to see, how this civilization was able to keep the truth alive even when they had nothing in writing about their past. A folktale is not just a myth anymore but a concrete truth that is out in the world today. But one problem still remains…

A Story Incomplete

The problem was the way the media houses covered and told the story about this amazing discovery. Even after finding this incredible piece of history the Heiltsuk Nation didn’t get the respect and attention they deserved of which they longed for so many years. Even today, people refer to their history as a legend, not a truth.

Alisha Gauvreau was one of the important parts of the dig. Currently, pursuing a Ph.D. from the University of Victoria. She said that the media didn’t focus on the discovery instead they gave the students who were present in the excavation much attention. Gauvreau has made sure that the story Heiltsuk Nation gets a proper attention.

The Endurance Of Humankind

After solving the mystery behind the Triquet Island that had a link with the North American civilization the archeologists have given us the new definition of the Ice Age and humans. The discovery has also proved that the oral history could also be true. A 14,000 years old story still on the Heiltsuk people’s tongue tell how great and proud they are of their ancestors and origin.
