Dog keeps acting strange with pregnant owner, leaves everyone at shock when they found out why
Alhanna and her fiance Ricky had an instant connection when they met, they both knew at the moment that they were meant to be together. They didn’t take long before they got married and exchanged heartwarming vows. The couple was deeply in love and all they wanted was to build a family together. Starting a family wasn’t easy at first, as Alhanna couldn’t conceive from the first tries, all she wanted was a child but life wouldn't budge. Despite their many failed attempts, the couple never gave up on having children, and soon enough Alhanna got pregnant.
The couple’s beloved dog, Keola, didn't take long to realize that Mom was pregnant. Keola had always been a sweet puppy, always ready to cuddle and be pet, but seeing Alhanna’s belly growing bigger every day just made her even sweeter. She even traded her evening walks with staying by the side of Alhanna, resting on her growing belly.
However, the peaceful and snuggly pup started acting strange when Alhanna reached the end of her first trimester. Keola just kept pawing at Alhanna’s belly, burying her nose in it as if she was trying to get something out. Her behavior didn’t stop with time, but the couple didn’t make a great deal out of it, thinking it was just a reaction to Alhanna’s belly growing bigger.
Alhanna’s pregnancy was safe and stable until she reached her 16th week. Sudden sharp pains in her lower back were keeping her up at night. The pain was so severe that she could hardly walk or talk. Her fiance Ricky rushed her to the hospital, hoping nothing was wrong with his fiance and child.
The couple was dying of anxiety, thinking of every possible way things could go wrong, but the doctor Alhanna and the baby were fine. The pregnancy was just taking its toll on her body and that she needed to get as much rest as possible until the day she delivers her baby.
.
The next day, Alhanna shared an update on her Facebook account to let her friends and family know what was going on. She detailed her scary symptoms and what the doctor has told her, she has also mentioned the odd behavior of Keola that didn’t seem to be just a phase anymore.
Alhanna’s family rushed to offer her their love and support, and many urged her to trust Keola’s instinct, saying that she should go back to the doctor and have a second check-up just to be sure that things were indeed safe and stable.
At this point, Alhanna was completely lost and had no idea what to do, she was already exhausted from pregnancy and the constant worrying. But after her back pain didn’t let up, Alhanna was starting to believe that Keola might be right. After all, Keola’s behavior had been extremely unusual for a while. Was it possible that Keola was trying to tell her something?
The next morning, Alhanna woke up, still in intense pain. This however, didn’t stop her from getting ready to head to work and try to tough it up, one more time. She was about to head out the door when Keola wouldn’t let her leave. She was jumping up and down and whining while barricading the door. Alhanna had no idea what had gotten into her. It was only a few instants before Alhanna collapsed. Ricky heard the collapse and rushed her to the emergency room..
Alhanna was stabilized and explained her ongoing symptoms. The doctor gave Alhanna a thorough exam and ran a series of tests to determine if her pain and collapse were to worry about.
Alhanna, Ricky, and her mom patiently waited for the results.
Alhanna’s doctor returned with some bad news. Alhanna had a double kidney infection, and had she stayed any longer, she and her baby could have died.
On one hand, Alhanna was relieved the pain wasn’t all in her head, but now she feared for her life and her unborn baby’s life.
Alhanna’s doctor knew that she was at serious risk of losing her pregnancy, or worse, her and her baby’s life. Her doctor placed her on a serious regimen of antibiotics and kept her under supervision, to make sure that her kidneys’ condition did not aggravate.
After a few scary and stressful weeks, Alhanna completed her antibiotic regimen and got the rest she needed. Thankfully, the care and treatment worked. Alhanna’s kidney infections cleared up, she was safe and so was her baby. She and Ricky could finally wait for their baby with excitement, not worry.
Finally, after what seemed like a lifetime, Alhanna gave birth in November of 2015. She and Ricky welcomed a precious baby boy they chose to name Lincoln. The couple’s dream of having a family together finally came true.
Alhanna and Ricky spent a few days with Lincoln in the hospital. The couple was excited to finally get to bring their little man home, mostly so they could introduce him to Keola, without whom he and his mother wouldn’t be still alive to rejoice those moments.
Keola was incredibly ecstatic when she realized that Mom and Dad had a new baby brother with them. She immediately adopted him and became inseparable from the little baby. She was now not just his friend, but his protector who doesn’t leave his die no matter where he’s taken.
Keola is a big dog compared to a tiny baby, so naturally, Alhanna and Ricky, and even their friends and family were sometimes worried about her accidentally harming Lincoln. But Keola was always careful to be extra gentle around Lincoln whenever the two were cuddling or playing. It really did seem like Keola had that “sixth sense” some animals seem to possess!
Alhanna truly felt like Keola had saved her and her son’s liives. She believed Keola was a hero, once she shared her story online, everyone did too! Keola’s story went viral and soon enough, she was nominated for an Animal Hero Award by the RSPCA.
As part of being nominated, Keola got to attend the award ceremony with Alhanna and Ricky where she received an award of lots of dog treats for being a true animal hero.
Alhanna, Ricky, Lincoln, and Keola’s story goes to show that sometimes your pets really are trying to tell you something. Perhaps, we’d all be better off if we listened. “I have absolutely no doubt that both me and my son Lincoln would not be here today if it was no for Keola,” Alhanna said in an interview with the Daily Mirror. “The bond between Keola and Lincoln is indescribable,” Alhanna added. “She’s an amazing dog and neither of us would be here without her.”
