FLORIDA MOM RECEIVES AN UNBELIEVABLE MAIL 5 YEARS AFTER HER 14-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER GOES ASTRAY

After a long tiring day at the office, she returned home and fell asleep without even having dinner or checking on her daughter. Next morning the first thing she noticed after waking up was a note on the kitchen slab. The mother’s heart sank on finding out what was written inside. It was a message from her daughter who ran away from the home leaving just a note for information purposes.

A Florida girl in her early teenage years disappeared without leaving any traces. Neither her family nor her friends were able to figure out her whereabouts. Five years later, her mother received a letter stating it was from her daughter but was it really from her? Or was someone trying to make fun of this mother’s pain? Or what if there were cruel intentions behind this?

Teen Life

Panama City, Florida native, Emily Wynell Paul, a 14-year-old girl lived an ordinary teen life or at least that’s what people assumed. But one day during the month of April 2013, she took the boldest step of her life that made her stand out of the crowd. It was just a month after her birthday that she had run away.

Typical Teenager

Like a typical teenage girl, Emily enjoyed being around with friends, playing loud music, following the latest fashion, crushing about boys, and doing whatever interested her. In any condition, she didn’t wish to be disturbed by her mother and that’s what topped her lists. Didn’t she show any signs of being distant from the family?

Mother And Daughter

Emily was a sincere girl who was well aware of the fact that her mother loved her the most. Yes, they had arguments but that’s how families are. People fight and argue and yet sit together at the dinner table. Emily and her mother, Pam Massimiani were similar in many terms which was both good and bad for them. Pam always used to say that Emily was her younger version. Sometimes she was stubborn and sometimes she was sassy just like her mom.

Social Media

Emily either used to be at her friends’ place chit-chatting or in her room scrolling her social media. Those were the days when Facebook was the new big thing to connect around the world. And just like most of the teens, Emily too was addicted to this newest means of networking. Pam sometimes used to wonder what glued her daughter to this platform.

Hard Days

It was tricky to handle Emily somedays when she used to irritate her mother. Pam sometimes thought that maybe Emily did it on purpose, just to mess around with her. That’s the thing with the teenagers, they know the difference between right and wrong, however, they’ll make sure they trouble everyone around them just because of their confusing thoughts.

Teenage Life

Emily always tried to escape her mother’s company and preferred to be with her friends or use the internet. Whenever Pam tried to spend more time with Emily, she claimed that her mother treated her like a child. Pam usually laughed about it, after all, Emily was still a child. They failed each time to conclude this argument.

A Tough Girl

Emily had shared with her friends about the suffocating environment she has to live in. All her friends belonged to the same age group, who also complained about their parents’ stern behavior. Unlike the rest of the friends, Emily took her mother’s nature to heart. According to Emily, she was about to be an adult soon and it was unfair of her mom to treat her like a baby.

Emily desired more freedom which her mum might never allow.

No Big Deal

Pam was a strict lady who didn’t want her daughter defying her house rules.  She understood that raising Emily up would take a lot of hard work because Emily has never been an easy child to deal with. Anyway, Pam was quite confident that her daughter would never be out of her control. While talking with her family and friends, Pam never discussed the arguments that the two of them had. As it was all under control as per Pam.

The Short Stick

Emily stayed out or inside her room for most of the time just to stay away from her mom. She didn’t want to get into any arguments with her anymore. Her mother was becoming annoying for her now and she was in a desperate need of some space but her mom never understood it. The question was why did Emily make such a big deal of these issues? Well, when the 14-year-old looked at her friends, all of them seemed to have empathizing moms. So, yes, Emily felt her issues were huge as she was the only one suffering from it.

Separate Lives

Things were getting worse to the extent that Emily stopped getting out of her room at all. The only exception to it was the times when her mother called her for food and when her friends were coming to see her. Pam was pretty sure that this weirdness of her daughter was solely due to her hormones.  The only moments when the two of them were happy together were when Pam took Emily out for dinner or ordered a pizza to watch a movie while lying on their couch.

Online Friends

The 14-year-old had a lot of online friends with whom she shared her frustration. She met all of them on Facebook and never saw them in real life. Emily felt these friends understood her much better than her mom did. She even talked to them over the phone when she felt like there was no one else she could share her feelings with. They made plans of meeting them once she turns 18.

Thoughts On Paper

Emily talked to an online friend who explained to her the benefits of writing our feelings down. She gave her example to Emily and the teen was impressed by this suggestion. Emily thought that she should maintain her own personal journal too.

Writing It Down

When Emily started to write it all down on papers, she felt the burden lightened. She was hoping if all her aggression is penned down, she might stay normally with her mother until the time she turns 18. Once she started to write, her hands didn’t stop until she filled several pages and still had a lot to mention. It took her hours to feel like she had covered it all. She kept all those papers in one of the drawers as she wasn’t yet sure what she will be doing of these notes that just made her feel a lot better.

Zero Consequences

As Emily felt good writing down, it became her daily habit. The notes became a collection that stored all sorts of her memories; happy, or sad. So far, these diary entries were just her personal thing. While writing, she didn’t miss any of the details, it was the honest confession of her feelings.

White Lies

Everyday Pam returned from office and went upstairs to check on what Emily was doing. She opened her door with the question what she would like to eat for dinner and Emily as always had the same reply: anything. She wasn’t interested in whatever they may eat, all she wanted was her mother to close the door and let her be on her own. Anytime Pam would ask what is it that she’s writing, Emily would say that it was her school project or homework. Of course, if she tells it is a diary entry, her mom would be curious enough to read it.

An Avid Writer

Emily made it an important part of her routine to write. Every day after reaching home from school, the first thing she did was to write down her day’s detail. It was the escape she has been looking for so long. She not only wrote daily entries but anything that crossed her mind, be it a thought, an idea, a story, a song…

More Writing

A couple of weeks passed and Emily was still trying to adjust with her mom. Pam, however, was rigid. She was stuck with her rules and regulations and it was becoming frustrating for her all over again. This time she felt writing it down won’t be of much help and that she needed to take a big decision.

That evening, she went to her room and reread all her old collections of writings. This time she was going to write a letter.

A Note To Mom

This time Emily’s letter was addressed to her mom. As speaking only led to arguments, Emily thought writing a letter might help her explain to her mom how she actually felt about things. By the time she was done writing the letter an old thought crossed her mind again. Was she going to take that drastic step that will change her as well as her mom’s life forever?

Thinking Things Over

Emily kept rethinking the next step in her mind. She has been thinking of doing it for several months now but every time her fears stopped her. Although, this time her willingness to take the risk was much stronger than her fears. She felt like it was a “now or never” moment.

Back And Forth

After thinking about her thoughts for quite a while, Emily started to walk towards her room. She was trying to rethink all the consequences of this one act of hers. She knew it will affect her mom the most but will she think of herself or her mom? Emily was tired of the daily mess and was looking for a permanent solution.

Going Outside

Emily went out for a walk. When she returned home, she had already made up mind. After going through all the pros and cons of it she made this decision. For her, the pros were much more than the cons. She was just a step away from putting her idea into action.

A Pep Talk

Emily immediately hurried to her room and started to look out for her stuff. She was panicking and had to sit down for a moment to give herself the pep talk. With a few deep breaths, Emily finally gained the guts to do what she had been overthinking about for many months now. She was ready for action after keeping her feelings aside.

The Plan

Emily looked at her desk and she knew she had to do it now. She was ready to run away from her home. It looked like she couldn’t handle all these arguments anymore. Running away seemed like the perfect choice to make as this way both Pam and Emily could stay happy. Disappearing forever while her mother was out for work seemed like the wisest decision.

Packing Up

Emily was all set to run away. It was the perfect time to do it. Taking out her backpack from the top shelf, Emily kept all her valuable items inside it. She kept her PS, cell phone, and a few clothes. She carefully placed the letter at the kitchen counter for her mom to read once she is back home. She took a last look at her home and left.

Instant Fear

The cold breeze touched her skin and flirted with her hair. A sense of hesitation filled inside her head. After all, she was just sure of the first half of the plan and not the final destination. She was scared to death with the idea that something bad will happen to her and yet chose to take her steps ahead and out of the front porch.

Walking Away

As Emily walked down the street, she called some of her good friends to know how they were doing. As expected, she didn’t give them any clue of what she was up to. After talking to them for around 20 minutes, Emily walked farther away to head out of the city as soon as possible. Without looking back she just kept walking away.

A Long Walk

Emily kept walking down the road without looking up. She had many friends around the city and she didn’t want anyone to see her go. If anyone of her friends will see her with a backpack, they’ll certainly ask what she was up to and might inform her mom in the worst case scenario. She kept her head low whenever a car passed by her.

Back Home

It was a usual tiring day at work, and when Pam entered the house and the only thing that wasn’t ordinary was the utter silence around the house. Unlike other days, when Emily keeps the TV or the radio on at high volume, there was a pin drop silence in the house. It didn’t affect her mother much, it could be that she was using headphones or was out to her friend’s place.

A Long Day

Pam removed her heels and went to take a bath. Later she went to Emily’s room to tell she’ll be ordering pizza for her and having milk and cereal herself as she is not in a state to cook. Emily always enjoyed impromptu dinners but she wasn’t in her room. Pam ordered the pizza anyway and left it on the couch for Emily while she went to sleep.

What’s This?

The next morning when Pam woke up to find the pizza still kept untouched on the couch. Emily wasn’t in her room and there was a note on the kitchen slab. The note had Emily’s writing and it was addressed to Pam. She started to read the note and by the time she was done reading it, there were tears in her eyes, and she collapsed.

So Many Questions

Pam knew her daughter was notorious but she would run away from her home was unexpected. The mother was confused if she should be angry or upset over the present situation. If this letter wasn’t lying, didn’t this mean Emily was gone forever? So many questions that her head was bursting in pain.

On the Phone

Pam took her phone and started calling anyone and everyone she thought must be aware of her daughter’s whereabouts. She was hoping that Emily might have told someone about her leaving the home. And what if someone had an idea about where she must be right now. She was crying and talking to her friends and parents of her friends to know anything that could help her bring her daughter back.

Her Fault

Pam couldn’t digest all that was happening to her, it felt like a nightmare that will be over the moment she wakes up. Emily never showed any signs that would have warned Pam. She was thinking if it was something that she said that hurt Emily so bad that she left the home. Pam started to blame herself for it. She recalled their last conversation, sadly, she couldn’t remember anything worst enough to result in this blunder.

Too Much

Pam called everyone that she knew of but not even a single person had any clue about Emily’s action. She knew this matter was out of her hands now, hence, she had to take help of the police department. Before calling the police she made sure, that her own emotions were in control.

Call The Police

Pam tried calling her numerous but Emily answered none. She managed to disappear with so much perfection that no one saw her passing by the streets last evening. Her clothes were missing and so was her video game. This made it clear that the note was no lie and Emily ran away in reality.

Was she doing it all alone or someone was behind it? Did someone brainwash her? Or was someone blackmailing her?

Nonstop Tears

As far as Pam knew Emily, she wasn’t one of those who’ll run away from any challenge. Emily would rather stay and solve an issue instead of running away from it. According to her mother, she wouldn’t just run away without knowing where she’ll be heading next.

Opening An Investigation

When the cops arrived, they put some investigators on the case and search for the teen. They also informed Pam that as Emily was still a juvenile, she might be in caught in grave danger that no one knew of.

Possible Motives

The cops questioned the heartbroken mother if she had any idea or any possible motives behind this act but Pam wouldn’t have called the cops if she knew where her daughter was. She was still in shock and the last few weeks flashed back in her mind but no alarming information that could have been a sign of Emily’s sudden reaction. What Pam feared the most was the possibility of her daughter being with someone she didn’t know well enough.

The Search Begins

The police initiated an instant search for the teen. They were hoping that Emily might still be in the town. She showed the cops the letter she left, and it said that she’ll be going to a safe place and might come to visit her mom once she’s 18. This made her more sure of the fact that she was being helped.

The Hard Truth

The letter was considered as a piece of evidence by the local cops. There was no certainty that Emily wrote the letter on her own and not under anyone’s pressure. The fact could be the minor girl must be caught in some serious sort of trouble. They were looking at it from all the possible angles.

Finding Emily

The police started searching the nearby area but Emily wasn’t there. The investigators who were looking for any sort of information from Emily’s contacts were also left empty-handed. They were trying to help the single mother but as long Emily won’t return home, all these efforts will be in vain.

Public Notice

While the cops were doing their part, Pam asked the local news channel to help. The local news stations helped the helpless mother. they aired her message on the TV stating that Emily is always welcome home openheartedly and no one will question her about anything. Pam also begged anyone in case they’ve held her daughter captive to return her home.

Public Pleas

Keeping the possibility in mind that someone might have seen something, Pam even conducted live press conferences to bring to more and more attention. Her mother didn’t even know whether Emily was picked up in a car or if she walked out alone. She didn’t say anything about coming back in the letter.

Family Support

Pam was receiving help from her friends and family. Despite police’s efforts, Pam wasn’t satisfied, she just couldn’t sit at home knowing her daughter was somewhere out and most probably struggling or in trouble.

A Briefing

One morning the cop’s called Pam to see if she was home as they were supposed to give her the latest updates about the case. Pam told them they can come immediately for she took off from work to search for her daughter.

No Danger

The cops told Pam that as per their theory, Emily wasn’t in any trouble. She walked out of the home with her own agenda, and she would most probably return home when she’ll feel like. The investigators made it pretty much clear that they will still keep the search on and the case open.

No Way

Pam wasn’t ready to admit that her daughter can leave her just like that for no reason at all. She felt insulted and made it very clear that it wasn’t her daughter’s nature to run away. Also, she’ll keep looking for her even if the cops won’t help her.

Online History

The cops also searched Emily’s room and took her computer as evidence. Emily has been searching several websites for more information on running away. This research has been going on from several months now. She stopped using her Facebook account ever since she left her house. The last ping on her phone was nearby her home only.

Bad News

Pam was agitated and her questions were still unanswered. She was unable to figure out what it took for her daughter to leave her all alone. It was impossible to settle down with the fact that she chose to runaway willingly, but Pam had no other choice. All she could do is to pray for her to be safe and sound.

Sinking In

Pam started to adjust to the fact that she might never get to see Emily again. She was exhausted of all the resultless searching. The more she thought of it, the more she lost herself into grief. She couldn’t handle the fact that her upbringing would prove so wrong.

A Tough Journey

Pam was hopeless but somewhere deep in her heart, a mother never stopped waiting for her little girl. Anytime anyone knocked on the door, a voice inside her said, it was Emily. It’s like she started to live in the memories of the days when Emily was with her.

Cold Comfort

Pam survived the shock and made her way through the hellish nights and headed to work every morning. In her daughter’s absence, the mother started to give most of her time to work. She worked overtime and she worked on weekends just to keep her away from the negative thoughts. The cops too kept on checking on the miserable mother from time to time even when they themselves lost all the hopes of listening from the girl.

Mixed Emotions

Despite the fact she was trying hard to keep herself occupied, Pam still used to sit and think about how Emily must be doing. In a cruel world, how her daughter must be surviving all by herself. She couldn’t help but blame herself for whatever happened that night.

A Mystery Letter

During one spring day of 2018, Pam was going through the mailbox and as she was checking all the bills and pending payments, she found a letter that made her heart skip a beat. The letter didn’t have any return address on it, and it was addressed to Pam. As she went inside and started to read it, she found herself on her knees by the time she was done reading it. The letter stated that it was Emily who wrote it but did she? Pam immediately called the cops.

It’s True

The cops arrived and checked the letter. Unfortunately, they couldn’t figure out where exactly this letter came from. It was mentioned that she was doing fine and there was nothing to worry about. The cops had no other choice but to post it on Facebook to see if this letter was indeed written by Emily. They said she should meet the cops for once so that they could close the case.

It’s Emily

To everyone’s surprise, a few days after the post was shared, a girl actually appeared in a local police station a few hours away from Pam’s house claiming herself to be Emily. The investigator in charge of the case immediately hurried to the station to meet this girl. Was she actually her? How did Pam react to it?

Well, let us warn you right here, that the next incident might break your heart to the core and mess up your mind even more.

No Meeting

The investigators stated that it was indeed Emily. She was healthy and doing well. Now that she was a 19-year-old adult, she wished to keep her address a secret and clearly mentioned that she didn’t wish to see her mother, not in that very moment at least. The investigator in charge had no other choice but to let her go.

A Huge Relief

Pam felt like her heart crushed inside her when she heard that her daughter didn’t wish to see her. All those nights she spent worrying were in vain. Yes, Emily was sorry for her acts in the past but she wasn’t yet ready to meet Pam.

The mother had no other choice but to deal with it. Thinking of her kid’s happiness before one’s own, guess that’s what being a mother is all about.
