AN ALASKAN FISHERMAN WAS ASTONISHED TO SEE A BALD EAGLE AT THE DOCK AND WHAT FOLLOWED NEXT LEAVES HIM BAFFLED

 

Going out fishing on a bright sunny day is an idea that attracts all of us. The cool breeze blowing around the sea, the shining sun and the eagerness to hunt the biggest fish cheers up all the dull and low moods. And if you have a life like that of a fisherman, it gets even more exciting because you get to do something similar for almost all your life.

However, not all days work as we hope them to. And when a fisherman from Alaska, was off to his work, a huge flock of bald eagles crowds him. And honestly, their intentions didn’t seem to be a good one. What were these majestic birds up to? 

Any Other Day

It was a bright sunny Monday morning in Alaska, the U.S. An old fisherman Jessie was off to his work, setting up the fishing net in order to hunt for the maximum fishes possible. It was a new day and he hoped that today he would be able to get enough one. However, little did he know that even before he would be able to hunt enough, his day would turn into the unexpected.

Strange Sight

While the fisherman was busy entangling his net and looking for the best place to throw it, he finds some shadow on the sea water. It appeared to be like that of a huge bird or something. He looks above him in the sky and was taken aback with what he saw.

A Huge Bird

As the shadow grew darker, the fisherman realized that the bird was approaching near him. He looked up in the sky to see which bird it was. As it was a sunny day he could not see it clearly. But as the flying creature neared him, he was shocked and whispered, “Did I just see that?”

A Bald Eagle

The man was amazed to see it was a huge bald eagle. Finding this majestic creature was a rare sight. Almost every day he had been setting his net there, and have never had an encounter with this bird before. He was lost in the moment until he realized that the bird was sharply approaching him. He was scared at the way she was coming closer. But why was she coming near?

The Majesty

The man was this surprised at the sight of a bald eagle as they are one of those species who was endangered at a time back in the U.S. Moreover, this bird is a symbol used to represent the United States worldwide. The nation is as powerful and bold as this bird. Surely, this bird’s majesticness is worth admiring. But, things weren’t as pleasing that day.

Looking Straight

His deep brown eyes stared at the man. His mouth open and she flew straight to his boat’s deck. The sight was a horrifying one. The bird looked like that as if she would just attack the man right then. However, none knew that there was a lot more to come and this was the mere beginning.

Lucky

While many people consider themselves to be very lucky on spotting a bald eagle because one rarely gets to find one. When a majority of the people were thinking of this fisherman from Alaska to be a lucky one, none really didn’t know that these birds are something not be messed with. Was the guy really lucky or soon would bad luck hit along?

Captured

Thankfully, Jessie decided to capture the moment. As if he had not then no one would have ever believed how a single bald eagle at the dock brought with it the unbelievable. The way things unfolded next was truly unexpected.

Comfortable

Though initially scared, Jessie was astonished to see that the bird did not harm or attack him, but came and comfortably sat on the deck. He had never witnessed a bird this big so close to him. For some unknown reason, Jessie decided to something for this bird completely unaware of the fact that he was inviting trouble for him.

Hungry Baby

It was just one eagle, so Jessie thought as he had some stale fish in the boat that he hunted a week before, so he could offer those to this bird. Unsure of whether the bird will like it and eat it, Jessie threw a fish at the bird, and next what happened blew his mind.

Gobbled

Jessie stood there and gazed at the bird. The huge creature stepped towards the fish and gobbled it in instant. Jessie couldn’t believe that the bird was so calm in human presence. And to show some more generosity he offered more fishes to her. But this time, things weren’t as expected. The alarm bells were ringing already.

Danger Alert

Jessie kept on feeding the bald eagle. He was enjoying it then. The poor fellow did not realize that a huge danger was flying over his head which had the capacity to harm him. And finally, when he could sense it, he was baffled.

Flock Of Eagle

Suddenly an entire flock of bald eagles ended up coming at the dock. From just one bird to nearly twenty birds the whole boat was covered with eagles. Jessie was taken aback. He had never expected to be surrounded with so many majestic birds. The sight was already scary, and Jessie did something even more dangerous.

Face To Face

Jessie gets on his knees and comes at face to face level with the bald eagles. The eagles looked right at him staring him in his eyes. He knew what he was supposed to do next. Feed them. But this idea did not seem to be that great. Why?

More And More

As Jessie threw fishes at the new entries on the boat, they all gobbled it in a single go. He fed them more. And when he did so, more and more bald eagles came to join their fellow flock members. Everywhere you see, you’ll find bald eagles.

Feeding On Hand

Jessie decides to feed one particular eagle with his hand. He takes a fish and goes very near to its mouth. The bird moves its beak in other direction. As Jessie tried to feed him again the eagle screams. The bird gave him a stern look. Jessie threw away the fish.

Pleasing Sight

Jessie continued to feed the flock of birds. The more and more birds came, more of fishes he offered them. It appeared to be a pleasing sight to him. Feeding birds and seeing them enjoying the meal was all good until Jessie ran out of food. How would birds react to this?

Reactions

 The bald eagles are the majestic beings. They do not appreciate human presence much and often when annoyed, their behavior is unpredictable. They can even counterattack the person. Now that Jessie had been feeding the birds like anything, a food shortage at this stage might annoy these birds.

Stood There

As expected the birds did not fly away. They all stood there still and kept on looking at Jessie. Probably they were still hungry and hoped that they would be served more food. But they did not move. What will they do next?

Hunt For Food

The bald eagles are one of the scariest hunters. They attack their prey via their claws. As soon as water surface fishes and even ground critters see them approaching, they rush to lower levels. These birds can even eat a snake. Now that Jessie had no food what were they going to eat now?

Hanging Around

The bald eagles did no harm to Jessie, they did not attack him either. They just were hanging and moving around and hoping to get something more to eat. This was something really strange about their nature.

Video Viral

Jessie luckily made a video of this rare sight and shared it over the web. The video went viral within minutes and people were surprised to find so many eagles in the United States as their population was on the verge of extinction once.

Population

As per official state records, Alaska has a population of nearly 30,000 bald eagles. One can find sea easily here and thus a lot of salmons and fishes are also being exported and imported from this place, and as these species love this food, they can be located here. However, the case was not the same as always.

In The 1950s

Back in the 1950s, the bald eagles’ population was declining. And one of the major issues for this cause was the chemical DDT that was harming these birds and eventually they were dying. But with certain conservation efforts, their population was still stable.

8 Million Views

Within a few hours, the video crossed nearly 8 million views. People were amazed to see a huge flock of eagles. While some appreciated him of feeding the majesty there were others who did not appreciate this as they thought he invited danger.

Massive Creatures

These birds have a massive wingspread. Their wings are comparatively much larger than their bodies. They have wings nearly 7 feet in size while their body is only 35-40 inches. Also, they weigh around 14 pounds.

Mate For Life

This is a really unique characteristic of these birds. They are believed to mate for life. And not only this, but they also share parenting duties. Moreover, both the father and the mother feed their young ones.

Long Lives

Unlike other usual birds, bald eagles have a pretty long life. They can live up to decades. The longest living bald eagle was 38 years in age. It was an inhabitant of Henrietta, New York.

Largest Bird’s Nest

These massive birds are not only massive in size, but the nests they build are equally huge. Their nests are nearly 2 to 4 feet deep and 4 to 5 feet wide. The male and female eagles build the nests together laying a strong foundation for their eggs.

Look At Wings

People often mistake these huge birds for vultures. One must look closer at their wings. A bald eagle has flat wings on flying while a vulture will hold the wings above in a V shape.

Beautiful Eyes

These majestic birds have a special lid in their eyeballs. They have a see-through eye membrane which is known as nictitating membrane. The special feature is that these birds can close this eyelid for protection of their eyes while their main eyelid remains open.

Swim At Times

Bald eagles have hollow wings and huge wings which at times help them to float. They can certainly swim pretty well. And these birds float in order to grab a heavy-weighing fish from the upper layer of water and cherish it as their food.

Females Larger Than Males

These birds own another different characteristic to themselves. The females are nearly 25 percent larger in size. Why this differentiation in the structural build-up is a question, the scientist has been figuring out.
